Product Introduction

Product Brief

• Developed, designed, and manufactured in strict compliance with globally recognized standards including GB/T 1037 and ASTM E96, this product operates on the gravimetric (weight loss) testing principle-an industry-standard methodology for reliable water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) measurement. It is specifically engineered to evaluate the water vapor barrier performance of critical materials and packaging solutions across key sectors such as food packaging, pharmaceutical packaging, medical device components, daily chemical products, and photovoltaic (PV) electronics. Whether testing thin films, sheets, papers, or finished packaging articles, the instrument delivers wide-range, high-efficiency WVTR detection, making it ideal for characterizing materials with high, medium, or low water vapor barrier properties-essential for ensuring product shelf life, stability, and quality compliance.

Test Principle

• The testing process begins with filling a dry, contamination-free water vapor permeation cup with distilled water. A pre-conditioned test specimen is then used to hermetically seal the cup, which is subsequently placed inside the temperature- and humidity-controlled test chamber. By maintaining precise environmental conditions (temperature, relative humidity), the distilled water within the cup undergoes controlled evaporation. As water vapor penetrates the test specimen, the instrument continuously monitors the weight reduction of the permeation cup over a set time interval. This weight loss data is then used to calculate key performance parameters, including the water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) and water vapor permeability (WVP), providing quantitative insights into the material's barrier efficiency against moisture.

Executive Standards

• Compliant with a comprehensive suite of international and national standards, ensuring cross-industry compatibility and regulatory alignment: GB/T 1037 (China), GB/T 16928 (China), ASTM E96/E96M (U.S.), ASTM D1653 (U.S.), ISO 2528 (International), DIN 53122-1 (Germany), JIS Z0208 (Japan), and YBB 00092003 (China Pharmaceutical Packaging Standard).

Product Features

• Patented core technology for superior testing precision
Equipped with a high-sensitivity weighing sensor-a critical component for gravimetric WVTR testing-this instrument delivers rapid weighing responses, long-term stability, and an industry-leading resolution of 0.0001 g/(m²·24h), ensuring accurate detection even for ultra-low barrier materials (e.g., pharmaceutical blister films). For temperature control, it utilizes a semiconductor refrigeration chip with bidirectional automatic adjustment, achieving a temperature control accuracy of ±0.1℃-a key factor in eliminating environmental fluctuations that could skew WVTR results.

• Wide measurement range and strong application adaptability
The instrument integrates 3 independent test chambers, each with isolated data collection, enabling high-throughput testing-a major advantage for laboratories handling large sample volumes (e.g., packaging manufacturers conducting batch quality checks). Its broad measurement range (0.1~10000 g/(m²·24h)) covers the full spectrum of barrier materials, from high-barrier EVOH films (used in food packaging) to low-barrier polyethylene sheets. Additionally, it can be outfitted with customized adapters to test non-flat packaging formats, including bottles, pouches, and bowls-addressing the diverse needs of the packaging industry.

• Ergonomic design, user-friendly operation, and real-time data visualization
Crafted from the dual perspectives of ergonomics and technical aesthetics, the product features a sleek, 3D-printed outer casing with smooth contours, blending durability with modern laboratory aesthetics. Operation is fully automated: a one-click test function initiates the process, with the instrument automatically running the test, judging endpoint conditions, and shutting down-reducing human error and operator workload. It also provides real-time display of four critical curves: WVTR-time, temperature-time, humidity-time, and weight-time. These curves support preview and hiding functions, allowing users to focus on key data trends (e.g., WVTR stability over time) during testing.

• Intelligent operating system with global regulatory compliance
The self-developed intelligent operating system adopts a modular, graphical interface, enabling flexible configuration of test parameters (e.g., temperature, test duration) and intuitive navigation-even for less experienced operators. Designed in strict accordance with the GMP Appendix "Computerized Systems", it includes essential features for regulated industries: an audit trail (tracking all user actions and data modifications) and multi-level user permissions (preventing unauthorized access). Test reports can be personalized to meet specific requirements (e.g., including company logos, standard references) and support multiple output formats (PDF, Excel). It also offers electronic signature and online report submission capabilities, streamlining compliance workflows for pharmaceutical and medical device clients.

• Professional calibration services for data reliability and authority
Our company is accredited to provide calibration using national standard substances (NSS)-a cornerstone of accurate WVTR testing. We hold the "National Standard Substance Grading Certificate" for water vapor transmission rate, issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China, with standard substance codes GBW(E)130543 and GBW(E)130544. By calibrating and verifying the instrument with these self-developed NSS, we ensure that test data meets national and international accuracy benchmarks, guaranteeing data comparability across laboratories and compliance with regulatory audits.

• Integrated laboratory intelligent IoT platform
The instrument is compatible with our laboratory IoT platform, enabling seamless networked digital management. Through remote authorized login, users can access the platform to manage test data (e.g., query historical results, generate statistical reports), perform remote diagnostics (reducing downtime by resolving issues without on-site visits), and download essential resources-including instrument manuals, technical documents, and operation tutorial videos. This IoT integration enhances laboratory efficiency, supports remote collaboration, and simplifies long-term instrument maintenance
