"Natural water", "oxygen-enriched water", "glacial water", "mother and baby water", and "weakly alkaline water"... Seeing these dazzling bottled waters on the market, do you as a consumer feel "choice fear" The advent of the disease? The staff of Tianjin Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau introduced that with the implementation of my country’s new "National Food Safety Standard for Packaged Drinking Water" national standards on May 25, distilled water, glacier water, ionized water, small molecule water, Functional water and other conceptual waters will all withdraw from the market.
Inspection and quarantine staff stated that the national standard of drinking water is an important basis for entry-exit inspection and quarantine departments to check the quality and safety of imported and exported drinking water. According to statistics from the Tianjin Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, under the current national standard for drinking water, in the first half of this year, the bureau inspected 123 batches of imported drinking water with a value of approximately US$2.41 million. Among them, 5 batches of drinking water with colonies and impurities exceeding the standard were detected, and all of them have been returned or destroyed under supervision.
The new national standard stipulates that, in addition to separate national standards for natural mineral water, packaged water on the market will only be divided into two types of drinking pure water and other drinking water, that is, it is classified as other drinking water if it is not pure water. No other names will be allowed.
The changes of the new national standard packaging water outer packaging are concentrated in four points:
Change 1: In addition to natural mineral water, packaged drinking water on the market is only divided into two types: purified drinking water and other drinking water. Therefore, it includes distilled water, activated water, small molecular cluster water, functional water, energy water, etc. Will be prohibited from appearing on the outer packaging label of the packaged water.
Change 2: Packaged drinking water must not be named after one or more components other than water. In other words, the names of various soda and vitamin waters currently on the market will be changed.
Change three: There is a row of small characters-"Adding food additives to adjust taste". When food additives such as magnesium sulfate, zinc sulfate, calcium chloride, and potassium chloride are added to packaged drinking water to adjust the taste, similar words should be marked in the vicinity of the product name.
Change 4: The name "drinking mineral water" will no longer be allowed. "Mineral water" is natural drinking water with mineral elements, while the minerals contained in "mineral water" are artificially processed food additives, but the name is easily confused with mineral water, so it is banned.
In order to buffer time for water companies on the market, although the new regulations have been implemented, the labeling and marking requirements for packaged drinking water have been officially implemented on January 1, 2016. In other words, the label and identification of packaged drinking water produced after January 1, 2016 should meet the requirements of the "National Food Safety Standard for Packaged Drinking Water", and packaged drinking water produced before this date can continue to be sold until the shelf life.
