Jelly Cup Packaging
Abstract: The sealing strength is one of the important factors affecting the quality of cup jelly packaging, which should ensure the sealing of jelly and at the same time facilitate the consumers to open it when consuming, so the sealing strength of jelly cups should be kept in a reasonable range. This paper introduces the cup jelly sealing strength test method by using GBB-A3 lidding film heat sealer and GBH-2 electronic tensile tester independently developed by GBPI.
Jelly is water, sugar, carrageenan, konjac powder as the main raw material, by the melting, blending, filling, sterilisation, cooling and other processes made of delicious leisure food, loved by consumers. At present, there are many types of jelly packaging types, the most common for the jelly cup. Jelly cup is generally made of PP, PET and other plastics by thermoforming process to make the cup body, multi-layer composite film at a certain temperature and pressure with the cup body adhesive sealing, forming a complete jelly cup packaging.

For cup jelly, reasonable sealing strength is one of the important factors in controlling the quality of packaging. In order to ensure the quality and taste of the jelly, the sealing film must be tightly bonded with the cup. If the sealing strength is too low, the sealing film can not be sealed or easily fall off by external force, and the desired sealing result can not be achieved. If the sealing strength is too high, although the sealing of the jelly cup is guaranteed, but consumers will not be able to open the seal easily when eating jelly, which seriously affects consumer satisfaction with the product. Therefore, the sealing strength of jelly cups should be controlled in a reasonable range, not only to meet the sealing requirements of the package, the seal opening force is not too large.
Jelly cup sealing is generally achieved through the heat sealing process, the heat sealing process refers to the use of external heating conditions to make the plastic film sealing part of the melt viscous state, with the help of the sealing knife pressure and maintain a certain period of time, so that the upper and lower two layers of adhesion, with a certain degree of strength after cooling. Heat sealing is inseparable from heat sealing temperature, pressure and heat sealing time, which constitute the three elements of heat sealing. Heat sealing temperature is the most important factor affecting the sealing strength. In terms of jelly cup packaging, the heat sealing temperature is generally between the melting temperature of the sealing film and the decomposition temperature, if the temperature is too high, it is easy to make the sealing part of the film under the action of the pressure of the melt extrusion, reducing the thickness of the sealing part of the sealing and the strength of the heat sealing. If the temperature is too low, the sealing film can not reach the molten state and cannot be sealed. In addition, the heat sealing pressure should not be too large, the heat sealing time is not easy to be too long, so as to avoid the degradation of plastic macromolecules, so that the sealing strength decreases, the interface sealing deterioration. Therefore, with the help of relevant instruments, the heat sealing parameters can be adjusted to determine the best conditions for sealing jelly cups.
How to Test Seal Strength of Jelly Cups
The GBB-A3 Lidding Heat Sealer can be used to simulate the heat sealing process in the production of the product, and set different heat sealing temperatures, pressures and heat sealing times to seal the lidding film on the jelly cup sample. Then use GBH-2 tensile machine to test the sealing strength to judge the applicability of the sealing process, so as to determine the best sealing conditions.
Introduction of Lidding Film Heat Sealer and Heat Sealing Operation
GBB-A3 lidding film heat sealer can accurately determine the heat sealing temperature, heat sealing time, heat sealing pressure and other heat sealing performance parameters of the lidding film of jelly cups, yoghurt cups, coffee capsules, instant noodle drums, meal boxes and medical blister box packaging and other food and pharmaceutical packaging cups.
Heat sealing operation: Prepare the jelly cups and sealing film to be heat sealed, mount the fixture on the lower pallet of the instrument and put the samples on the fixture, which needs to be customised according to the shape and size of the jelly cups. Set the sealing temperature, sealing time and sealing pressure according to the requirement, after the sealing knife reaches the set temperature and stabilises, one key starts the instrument and the fixture on the instrument drops down to seal the sample.GBB-A3 has two operation modes: manual and automatic. In manual mode, step on the foot switch, the sealing knife is pressed together, and after the set sealing time is reached, the upper sealing knife is lifted up to complete the sealing operation. Under the automatic state, the upper and lower heat sealing knives of the heat sealer will be sealed automatically and repeatedly according to the set time.
